When foreign objects are displaced into the maxillary sinus during dental implant procedures, it often requires endoscopic surgery in ENT department of hospitals to remove the foreign object. What is the Valsalva Maneuver?
The Valsalva Maneuver is a breathing technique widely used in areas like cardiology, such as diagnosis or arrest of certain kinds of arrythmia. In implantology, it is commonly used to verify whether there is a perforation of the sinus membrane.
Dr. Leon Chen improved the Valsalva Maneuver, making it a powerful tool for resolving foreign objects in the maxillary sinus! 

 
[圖一]一位患者因植體滑入鼻竇，求助於陳博士；傳統方法(如吸引器)因力道不足，無法成功取出植體，甚至卡在洞口，讓人束手無策。
有時，醫師為了吸出異物，將吸引管伸入過深，可能造成眼窩底的危險。

[Figure 1] A patient experienced an implant displaced into the sinus, and sought help. Traditional methods (e.g., suction tools) failed to retrieve it due to insufficient pathways, leaving the surgeon helpless.
● Risk: Forceful suction or inhalation could potentially push the implant deeper, increasing the risk of further complications.
● Solution: With Dr. LeonChen's Modified Valsalva Technique, the patient applied forceful air pressure with foreceful blowing, and natural body airflow successfully pushed the foreign object towards the outlet. No need for surgery, no extra pain, and the patient instantly felt free!
